Research Society
About Us

Veteran songwriters/musicians, NAMKY and G MANN formed RESEARCH SOCIETY to explore their eclectic musical tastes while creating an innovative, yet classic sound.

Although the band composes and records as a duo, Research Society welcomes guest musicians and integrates electronics with live instruments during performances. Most recently, Research Society recorded and performed shows featuring drummer Danita Clark of Chikwood.

Research Society is a truly modern rock band, tastefully incorporating electronic sounds and textures into their innovative music. “We both really got into rock in a big way during the same period, the 90s,” Namky explains. “There was a lot of great guitar rock coming out, like Nirvana and Soundgarden. But there were also bands mixing heavy guitars with dance beats, like the Stone Roses, My Bloody Valentine and U2. A lot of our sound builds upon the multilayered recordings of that era that have stood the test of time.” G Mann adds: “Inspired by those classics, our goal is to write timeless songs while exploring ways electronics and instruments or techniques from other genres can enhance the experience our music provides.”

The band is defined by the unique nature of the band members themselves. Namky’s powerful voice and unique vocal performances bring to mind Roy Orbison and a parade of New Wave-era crooners bending his ear when he sings. G Mann plays guitar with a distinctive approach and tone informed by his biggest influences, David Gilmour, Tom Morello, and Johnny Marr. These sounds coalesce into a distinct, innovative and utterly entertaining blend of indie rock. A sense of fearlessness, enthusiasm for experimentation, and dedication to solid songcraft all make Research Society a singular band.
